Last week, Ken and Tiffanie were gracious enough to share their story with us about how they met online and the arduous fiance visa process they have endured. We hope that this video helps others who may be facing some of the same issues. I'm really looking forward to their wedding tomorrow! --kev

You've got to visit this web site! It is amazing. I love how it suggests songs in a similar style based on what other people have searched for. And it streams all day long right to your computer. I leave it connected to the PA in my living room most of the time these days. Total bliss! --kev

Excellent Wedding Vocalist (December 18, 2007)
A few days ago I recorded an excellent vocalist here in the studio. Her name is Chris Spurgeon (guys: she is married) and she lives in Owenton (about an hour from Lexington). Here is her contact info if you need someone to sing at your wedding. I am sure she will do an excellent job for you.
There are also lots of other vocalists and instrumentalist that I keep in touch with. If you ever need recommendations, I regularly help out with these sort of suggestions as a part of providing my music and video services for your wedding day. view page »

Great little book (November 27, 2007)
Every week I get emails from music students fresh out of school wanting advice on how to find jobs, how to start a recording studio, or wanting to know if there is good money in (whatever). Take Jim this week (name changed to protect the innocent!). Jim wanted to know if he should move to Nashville and start to network or build his music business slowly from his home town.
Only YOU have the answer. My advice is always the same. Invest in yourself and (1) read a lot of great business books, (2) write down your goals and steps to get there, and then (3) act on them. Below is an example from a really great book:
(From the forward) This little volume (the result of meditation and experience) is not intended as an exhaustive treatise on the much-written-upon subject of the power of thought. It is suggestive rather than explanatory, its object being to stimulate men and women to the discovery and perception of the truth that -they themselves are makers of themselves by virtue of the thoughts which they choose and encourage; that mind is the master-weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance, and that, as they may have hitherto woven in ignorance and pain they may now weave in enlightenment and happiness. -James Allen Amazon
Some other great authors are Seth Godin, Malcolm Gladwell, Tim Sanders, Dale Carnegie (How to Stop Worrying is excellent), and Napoleon Hill to name a few. Happy reading!

Great product! (November 04, 2007)
I was in Walmart a few days ago and came across a great new product...do-it-yourself custom ear plugs! You can find them in the outdoors section. The kit is only $11. Previously, you had to go to the audiologist to have custom ones made and they would cost about a hundred dollars.
Here is the exciting part...it is quite easy to make you own custom in-ear monitors and headphones with them as well! I recently converted my Blackberry ear piece and LOVE it! It is more comfortable than all of the other ear buds and headsets I've tried to date. You can wear them all day with no discomfort.
I find that a lot of times music is simply too loud for my taste in movie theaters and even at Starbucks, and these will come in very handy!

Congrats! (November 03, 2007)
Sean and Michelle had a wonderful ceremony and reception today at the Unitarian Universalist Church off Clays Mill Road here in Lexington. Cynthia Cain performed the ceremony. Martine's made the cake :-) Always yummy! --kev

Cara and Richard (October 29, 2007)
Saturday's wedding was different! I love it when couples change it up instead of using the old stand-by songs like Pachelbel Canon. There were lots of neat things that happened at Cara and Richard's wedding. For starters, all the guests were seated at tables for the ceremony which made for a more relaxing wedding. Cheryl Tolbert was singing and I played piano for her. Because we do primarily jazz music, it almost had a night club kind of feel. The Arts Place has a nice vibe to it anyway. I love the layout of the place. Cheryl sang At Last for the wedding party entrance. For the recessional, Cara and Richard used Carole King's Where You Lead I Will Follow (CD), which was nice and peppy and livened up the room! Something that I always like to do is place a wireless speaker in another part of the venue...in this case, it was in the art gallery where the guests could hear the music as soon as they came in the door and for the cocktail hour. After the cocktail hour was over, Cheryl sang with our jazz quartet (quintet) which was a lot of fun. For the last hour and a half, the guests wanted higher energy music, so we sent the band home and I DJ'd the remainder. It is always a nice option to have. Jackie Johnson was their official photographer. These are just two quick snaps with my Nikon Coolpix camera, but we also shot some video of Cheryl which I hope to share with you soon. Have a *great* week and congrats to Cara and Richard Hubble! --kev

Praise for Cheryl (October 09, 2007)
A surprise note came in today from Alexis and Evan! Cheryl sang with our jazz quartet at their wedding reception (Sept 8th, 2007). On October 27th, Cheryl is singing with our quartet again at Cara's reception. She has a very powerful voice. You can catch Cheryl every now and then singing at St.Luke United Methodist here in Lexington. Drop me a line if you'd like to stop by for a visit and hear some examples of her voice and watch some video clips. --kev
