More notes... (October 01, 2007)
Some commentary on the photos. I don't know...it is just a little point and shoot Nikon Coolpix. Someday I may get deeper into photography with enough encouragement, but for now am sticking with music and video :-) Appreciate all the kind words everyone this past week; it means a lot to me. Thank you so much! We all need encouragement from time to time. --kev

Beverly and John (September 23, 2007)
Just wrapped up a wedding at Spindletop (DJ reception & piano for ceremony). Excellent dancing crowd at Beverly and John's wedding today. Congrats everyone! --kev

Deanna and Danny (September 22, 2007)
Super nice couple! They were married at Madison Hills Christian Church. Jacob Duncan and I played the ceremony (same sax player from the Fasig-Tipton clip). I regret not recording this ceremony because Jacob played incredibly well. Lots of compliments on his playing. In addition to our usual jazz, we also did some contemporary Christian songs instrumentally such as How Beautiful and I Can Only Imagine. Jacob and I also played for an hour or so during the cocktail portion at the Holiday Inn South. Congrats Deanna and Danny! --kev

Out of Office Tuesday (September 18, 2007)

Live in Richmond or Berea? (September 11, 2007)
Just a sidenote...if you live in Richmond or the Berea area and are planning a wedding close by, you can catch me at Madison Hills Christian every Sunday where I play piano. I would be happy to meet with you after the second service and play through some examples of ceremony music. Marty, the pastor out there is also really easy-going if you need an officiant. This Saturday the 15th, Jacob (the sax player in the Fasig-Tipton clip) and I will be playing a ceremony at Madison Hills. Drop me a message if you'd like to set up a time to meet there...kev

Packed weekend (September 07, 2007)
Two weddings tomorrow. One at the Bodley Bullock House in the afternoon (solo piano for ceremony and reception), then in the evening a second reception at Spring Valley Country Club. The bride at Bodley is using a really neat movie song for the wedding party and her entrance...The Cider House Rules Main Theme (Google it). I'm most excited about the evening job because my friend Cheryl is singing with our jazz quartet. Here is her songlist:
All the Way
At Last
Basin St. Blues
Billie's Blues
Blue Moon
But Not for Me
Come Rain or Come Shine
Danny Boy
Days of Wine and Roses
Do Nothin' Till You Hear
Embraceable You

Fly Me to The Moon
God Bless the Child
I Can See Clearly Now
I Get a Kick Out of You

As you can see, she has a good selection of jazz standards and also favors Frank Sinatra and Cole Porter. In addition to jazz, Cheryl has a good selection of gospel tunes under her control. You can catch Cheryl frequently si

Jaime and Carlin (August 13, 2007)
Two weekends in a row at the Bodley-Bullock. Another nice ceremony and easy-going family reception. Jaime's sister Lindsey sang at the ceremony and was *wonderful*! Lindsey is in Kiss Me Kate currently, and I expect she will go very far in her career as an actress/singer. Our jazz duo provided the ceremony and reception music. The electric piano / sax combination works very well inside the house (if you aren't doing any dancing). If using our jazz trio, quartet, or quintet, the best place for the band is on the back porch. Something that I've been doing recently is connecting a small wireless speaker to the keyboard and placing it on the back porch so you can hear the ceremony music processional well and also the music going on inside the house.

Ceremony Video (August 12, 2007)

Fasig-Tipton (August 10, 2007)
Congrats to Amber and Shawn! We were so thankful that everything was moved inside the showroom at Fasig yesterday instead of being in the middle of the field with no cover from the sun. This was a fantastic wedding ceremony. First time I had played a ceremony in the showroom, although it has been a back up plan at a bunch of weddings. Acoustics are excellent in there. One of my fave sax players Jacob was with me last night. I've been watching the video we shot this morning and Jacob still amazes me. I am so fortunate to always be surrounded by top shelf musicians. He totally knocked it out of the ball park! Working on some video excerpts after lunch from the ceremony which I hope to post this afternoon before heading to the Bodley Bullock house.
It was great to just play the ceremony for Amber and Shawn and then relax for a little while as a guest for a change. They had a cover band from the Nashville area. Not sure who the photographer was (friend of the family I think). Fasig's food was outstanding again.
Although we didn't need the fan programs because everything was inside, they were very nicely made! Gruvy color combinations and the fan part was very sturdy. This is one of those projects you can do yourself and save some money for other areas.
Have a *great* weekend!

Congrats! (August 05, 2007)
Congrats to Cara and Keegan and Lauren and Josh! Cara and Keegan were so sweet. Very low-key event (solo piano at the Bodley Bullock house). Provide a PA for the ceremony and played on piano. You can also have my electric piano inside the house next to their antique piano. Something I like do is connect a wireless speaker and place it on the back porch so you get a touch of music outside. Works well. Inside the house, you can only have solo piano and maybe one other musician. If doing a small jazz group, the best place for that is on the back porch since dancing is not allowing inside the house. Contact me to set up an appointment for more info, a demonstration, and to look at more photos from events.
NOW! Josh and Lauren's wedding! This was totally different. We did all instrumental version of 80s tunes (played on electric piano) for the prelude and postlude. It was a great change of pace from the normal selections and a lot of fun because it was challenging. Josh and Lauren's recessional song was an Erasure tune (done instrumentally also), which was a total hoot and my favorite part. Their vows were very touching and they put a lot of thought into what was said. A plus guys! --kev

Listen in (July 21, 2007)
Congrats to Katie and Blake! Married in the chapel at Southland Christian. Greg Corona performed the service (excellent). I love working with Phyllis...she makes it so easy! I believe this was her 632nd wedding at Southland over the years (no kidding!). Here is a link to the complete audio from the service (it was just a little portable recorder I placed on the front pew...run time about 1 hour and 11 minutes...all the music is performed on my electric piano). Katie and Blake's reception was held at Equestrian Woods Country club. Enjoy!

Officiant (July 18, 2007)
Here is a short highlights clip from LeAnne and Stephens wedding ceremony at the Red Mile that I finished this morning. Kelly Jennings (he goes by KJ) did an excellent job on the ceremony; the service was relevant and contemporary. I really enjoyed working with him. Kelly is the High School Associate Minister at Southland Christian Church in case you need an officiant. More clips to come from this wedding as I finish the editing. -kev

Unity Candle Music (July 10, 2007)
Last night I was transcribing a beautiful piece of music for another pianist. It is from a movie score and would work well during the lighting of a unity candle/sand ceremony, or during an intimate moment of a wedding ceremony. See what you think.
Congrats to Sarah and Jason! (July 07, 2007)
Sarah and Jason Duncan were married at the Mariott Mansion at Griffin Gate. Kudos! -kev

Congrats to Erin and Andrew! (July 06, 2007)
Time flies when you're having fun. This reception went by so fast. Great group of people. Good dancing energy. The super DaRae Marcum provided catering and Angela Anderson was the photographer.

Idea for programs (July 03, 2007)
One thing you can do for summertime weddings that are outdoors is make your program into a fan. Heavy sticks and card stock can be found at a craft store like Michael's. With a little time and creativity, you can have a great looking and functional wedding program! You might also want to include a bottled water station at the back of the ceremony isle for your guests if it is going to be really hot outside. Have a *great* fourth! -kev

Congrats to Amber and Kevin (June 30, 2007)
